Learning Module 8.
Image Processing and Enhancements
Introduction
While pre-processing is done to correct for errors and distortions in data, enhancements are performed to improve the visual quality of images. The techniques covered in this section are designed to improve the visual interpretation & analysis of remote sensed data. In this section we will cover common radiometric and spatial enhancement techniques.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand why enhancements are performed and select appropriate techniques.
- Image histograms and their importance in contrast stretching, "slicing" and image processing
- Concept of contrast stretching and the different types of stretches
- Understand how masks and created and applied to rasters
- Convolution and spatial filtering
