The Geospatial community at Cal Poly Humboldt is a dynamic group of individuals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, all producing high quality geospatial data. In the past there has been a need for a centralized place that is accessible to associates of the university to put both derived outputs from academic projects and common reference datasets. The CPH GIS Database was developed to provide this for students, faculty, staff, and the community at large.
The Cal Poly Humboldt Library believes that preserving GIS data, maps, and aerial photographs are of utmost importance to historical, predictive, and other analysis, as well as, for better understanding. A project that most resembles what our archive is trying to replicate can be seen on a ISAMM site created by Dr. Jim Graham. The knowledge that is being collected for the GIS Data Archive is indispensable and we know that it will continue to aid faculty and students for years to come.
The GIS Data Archive was created from the need to preserve GIS projects, as well as, to make them discoverable and accessible. Our main objective is to have an organized space for easy access to GIS works of all types for research, student projects, and general use, and to provide a persistent location to the data and scholarship.
