Hidden Costs
The “hidden” costs are calculated using AAA’s annual "Your Driving Costs" brochure, which gives an average cost of driving 15,000 miles annually as 56.46 cents per mile. This includes fuel costs, averaging 10.26 cents per mile. But we are interested in hidden (non-fuel) costs, so we subtract it from the average cost, leaving us with 46.20 cents per mile.

Carbon Footprint
For every gallon of gasoline that your vehicle uses, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that 19.6 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) are emitted into the atmosphere. Based on the miles you drive to work and your vehicle’s fuel efficiency, these are YOUR VEHICLE'S ESTIMATED CO2 EMISSIONS.
