Accessible Layers

This information applies to all of the accessible layers. All these layers have been developed by having students and faculty survey campus based on the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design (ADASAD). These standards are required for newly designed and constructed or altered State and local government facilities and provides a reference point for facilities making changes to meet program accessibility requirements. We have almost completed an initial survey of the current routes but this work is on going so please check out the routes before you need to use them.

The accessible layers include individual layers for data on pathways (sidewalks and ramps), doors, elevators, curb ramps, parking, shuttle stops, and bathrooms. A "Current Accessible Routes" layer combines pathways, doors, elevators, parking, and shuttle stops into a single layer with the currently recommended route information.

Accessible Feature Symbology

Colors and dashes are used to communicate the level of accessibility based on the level of accessibility.

The colors for the pathways, curb ramps, and stairs were created using the following rules:

The same approach is used for icons for parking, bathrooms, shuttle stops, elevators, and doors except the colors appear within the icon and the dashed line appears as the border of the icon.

Accessible Feature Information

The feature information for accessible features includes a Score and Complete values. The Score is how well the feature meets the ADASAD criteria.

The Complete is how much of the survey has been completed. Where 0% indicates the survey has not been started and 100% indicates all of the appropriate criteria within the ADASAD have been met.

How the Data was Collected

All of the accessible information was digitized using high resolution aerial photography, existing data from the university, and on the ground surveys.
