Take Home Turn-In
This lab, more than any previous, should drive home the purpose of writing a lab report. Here the workflow and methods for this project has been largely developed by you and your peers. The lab report will allow you to show your work, demonstrate your understanding of the analysis, as well as to communicate to your instructors how you went about solving the problem. In a professional setting, this might be exactly how you would communicate your findings to your colleagues.
Your lab report must include the following sections:
- Abstract
- Given the complexity of this project, you should have a robust abstract which properly summarizes the entire project.
- Introduction
- This section should include background on the task at hand and a complete locater map for Pasadena and South Pasadena in relation to Los Angeles County. At a minimum, include a north arrow, scale bar, and labels for the two cities.
- Methods
- This section should include a modest summary of your analysis along with your flow chart.
- Results
- This section should include a site map of your final parcel along with local streets, main thoroughfares, bike paths, and points of interest. Each layer should be symbolized appropriately using guidelines indicated in the Basic Cartographic Design Reference.
- Conclusion
- This section should include the an answer to the following discussion questions:
-
What additional factors might be included as a criteria for a park and walk lot?
-
What alternative urban planning projects with a spatial component might be explored to promote healthy lifestyles?
- Acknowledgments
- If you use any basemaps other than your own, you should cite your sources here. You should also cite Los Angeles County and any other sources of data.
- In addition to the lab report, you should also sumbit a zipped folder containing all of your completed QAQC forms. You are required to have one for each dataset.
We are expecting the reports to be professional. Points will be deducted exponentially for any chronic issues and persistent mistakes. Incomplete lab assignments will receive a grade of 0.
