Learning Module 13.
Microwave Remote Sensing

Introduction

There are a variety of remote sensing technologies that use microwave energy. Passive sensors can detect naturally emitted microwave radiation. Active sensors generate and send out pulses of energy. The most common type of active microwave remote sensing is RADAR or Radio Detection and Ranging. Radar systems sends out pulses of microwave energy towards a target and detects the energy that is reflected back. In this module we will learn about both passive and active microwave systems.
